(This page is a continuation of Part 1 of How to Create a New Availability Pattern. Click here to go to that page first.)
The next step in creating your Availability Pattern is to mark 30-minute blocks of time that you would prefer to work.
Currently, RosterApps only allows for the marking of preferred times for work. You can highlight those blocks of time you would prefer by selecting the starting time you would want and holding down the mouse button to drag the cursor to the ending time. (It really is more intuitive than this explanation, try it.)
Here's an example. Let's say you wanted to work Monday through Thursday, 8am to 2pm. You would first put your cursor on the Monday 8:00am - 8:30am cell on your display.
Now, with your mouse button still pressed, you would want to drag the cursor to the 1:30pm - 2:00pm cell. You want the end time of the cell to be the ending time of your 'block'. Notice as you drag the cursor with the mouse button still pressed, the area you are selecting highlights.
When you release your mouse button, you will see that your selected cells now are colored as the 'Preferred' color GREY from the Availability Level Legend (towards the upper right corner of the page).
You can select multiple cells to create a block of time in a single day, but you can also select the same block of time on multiple days by dragging to the right. If you wanted to select as your preferred time, Monday through Friday, 8am to 2pm, you could select the time on Monday, and then drag right for the next 4 days.
In order to de-select cells of 30 minutes from your blocks, simply click on the relevant cells. This also works when you click and drag, enabling you to quickly select the times and days you would prefer to work, as well as take out chunks of time that you would prefer not to work, such as previous obligations (classes, church, etc.). When you have completed your selections, scroll down to the bottom of the page, and you will see 4 blue buttons.
The first is the 'Save' button, and this will (obviously) save your availability pattern. You will know that your pattern has been saved when RosterApps shows you a pop-up alert telling you as much.
The second button is marked 'Return'. You should select this button if you want to return to your Availability Patterns listing page *without* saving any changes you may have made. (If you choose to do this, RosterApps will bring up a warning box asking you to confirm that you want to navigate away from the page when you have made changes to your pattern since your last save.)
The 'Undo Changes' button will remove any changes you have made to your pattern since your last save.
Lastly, the 'Submit' button will finalize your Availability Pattern, and submit it to your Administrator for their approval.
You will know that you have successfully submitted your Availability Pattern if you take a look at your Availability page where your patterns are listed. When you one of your Patterns that has a 'Submitted by Employee' status, then your submitted pattern is awaiting review by your Administrator. See Figure 100160:
