How do I see all messages sent to or received from a specific number?
What is a "Number History"?
Using TextPower's MessageReports app you can see all of the messages and other activity related to one specific number. We call that the number's history and you can find it in the MessageReports app by clicking the "Number History" button in the left-side navigation bar.
This history shows all messages sent to or received from a specific number. It will show when that number has been opted in or opted out, what process was used to send a message (an API call or a send through AlertManager Pro, as an example).
You can search for messages in an entire date range, or by a specific phone number or a combination of both. Here's how:
- After logging into the MessageReports app click the "Number History" link in the left-hand navigation bar.
- Enter a phone number into the area at the top of the page labeled that way.
- After you enter the phone number click the "Show List" button and your search results will appear. (Remember that the system will be searching through tens of millions of records to find every instance of that number so you will see a "Processing" indication. Please be patient while it searches all the data.)
- The result will say "Showing X of Y entries." X is the total of the search results or the number of messages you have chosen to display in the drop-down menu, whichever is smaller. Y is the total number of entries in the search that meet the criteria you entered.
- You can choose how many messages to display on that page (labeled as "X" in the point above) by using the drop-down menu item just below the "Show List" and "Show Today's List" buttons. You can display 10, 25, 50, 100 or all messages. A maximum of 5000 records that meet your criteria will be displayed on the web page.
- You can download the entire list of records (not limited to the 5000 stated above) that meet your search criteria by clicking the "Download Report" button. A .CSV file will be created an downloaded to your computer.
- There is a "Search" field where you can enter a specific string of text or anything else of relevance - the system will search for that specific item within the results. So if you want to find all messages sent to that number containing a specific word you can do that easily by using the available search functions.
- You can sort the results shown on that page in ascending or descending order by clicking the arrows in the fields containing the names of the columns. Clicking the up/down arrow toggles the setting.
- The fields shown in the search results contain the following information:
- Event Name - the type of event associated with that number. There are several that may appear:
- MO - is a message sent by the phone (mobile-originated).
- MT-MTQUEUE - is a message sent from our system to the phone (mobile-terminated) which was generated by an automated process such as an integration with an OMS or billing system.
- MT-MTQSENDER - is a message sent from our system to the phone (mobile-terminated) using TextPower's bulk send app, AlertManager Pro.
- POST - this indicates that an MO sent by the phone triggered a POST of the message to the URL shown in the "Supplement Data" field. The URL to which we are POSTing the message (such as the OMS or billing provider) may command TextPower's system to send a reply but no reply is generated automatically by TextPower for this type of message.
- Supplement Data can be:
- Content of a message sent in an MO
- The URL to which an automated process POSTed the information from an MO
- The short code and keyword that the number is assigned to when the MT was sent to it.
- When Date/Time - shows the timestamp of the message in your local time zone as specified in TextPower's user configuration for your account.
- Event Name - the type of event associated with that number. There are several that may appear:
