For time zones that observe daylight savings, ARCOS automatically handles the time changes for both the daylight savings time change, in the spring, and the return to standard time, in the fall. This change occurs at 1:59 AM EST in the Spring and 1:59 AM EDT in the fall.
Spring Daylight Savings Time Changes
With the time change in the spring, users should see little to no impact. When schedule records or callouts are created with a start or end date that would occur during the "missing" hour (2:00 AM EDT to 3:00 AM EDT), the time will be adjusted to 3:00 AM EDT.
Example, for a customer in the Pacific Time zone:
If a shift record is created for Saturday 14:00 -22:30 PT, the end time of the shift will be adjusted to be 23:30 PT. This happens because 22:30 PT is really 2:30 AM ET which does not exist during the time change window.
Note: Schedule records that start before and end after the time change will have a duration 1 hour shorter. Example: Shift starts at 17:00 PT - 03:00 PT will have a duration of 9 hours and not 10 hours since the 1:00 AM hour did not occur.
Return to Standard Time
With the time change in the fall, users will notice some time differences during the repeated hour. When schedule records or callouts are created with a start or end date that would occur during the duplicated hour (1:00 AM EDT to 1:59 AM EST), the time will be adjusted to 2:00 AM EDT.
Examples, for a customer in the Pacific Time zone:
-
If a shift record is created for Saturday 14:00 -22:30 PT, the end time of the shift will be adjusted to be 23:30 PT. This happens because 22:30 PT is really 1:30 AM ET which is repeated during the time change window.
-
If a shift record is created for Saturday 12:00-22:00 PT, the end of the shift is adjusted to 23:00 PT.
The issue here is that this particular shift ends right at 2 AM ET, which is really 1 AM on this particular day, which adds an hour to the shift in PT since times are stored in the database in ET.
Note: Schedule records that start before and end after the time change will have a duration 1 hour longer. Example: Shift starts at 17:00 PT - 03:00 PT will have a duration of 10 hours and not 11 hours since the 1:00 AM hour occurred twice.
