In order to create a custom message via Wave to Web, the user's PC must have a microphone, a sound card, and a PC capable of accepting a Java applet download from the Internet. If a properly formatted .wav or .ulaw file already exists on the PC, it can be uploaded into ARCOS using the Wave to Web functionality.
To Record a Custom Message via Wave to Web
-
Click the Custom Msgs button on the Callout or SIREN tab.
-
Select the checkbox in the Only display messages for (current location) field, if you want to see only custom messages selected to be available in current location.
Note: All Custom Messages are available to all ARCOS users throughout the same hierarchy, no matter who recorded them. Deselecting the checkbox displays all Custom Messages available for use by the company in ARCOS.
Note: Not all customers have the checkbox mentioned above, therefore all custom messages are available for use when creating/editing a callout.
-
Select Custom Message from the Please select message type dropdown.
-
Click the Record New Message button.
Note: You may receive a security pop-up for the custom message applet. Check the Always trust content from this publisher checkbox and click run. This will allow the applet to run automatically whenever you access the Message Detail page.
-
In the Recording Console header, you will see the Flash icon and the Use Flash Audio/TTS link will be available.
-
Click the Record button, - OR -
Click the Browse button to locate the appropriate .wav file to upload. Skip to step 10.
-
Speak the message into the input device.
-
Click the Stop button when finished. The maximum recording time is 90 seconds. The recording console automatically stops at that point.
-
Click the Play button to listen to the Custom message.
-
Repeat steps 5 through 8, to re-record the message.
-
Click the Upload button when satisfied with the message. ARCOS confirms the Custom Message has been uploaded with the red text that appears at the top of the screen. Read the red text carefully each time. It also indicates any errors that may occur during the upload.
-
Enter a description of the message in the Description textbox.
Note: Only the first 50 characters of the Custom Message displays in the Custom Msg dropdown field on the Create Callout page. If the message description exceeds 50 characters, it will be shortened to 50 characters followed by an ellipsis (...) and will have a mouse over so you can hover your mouse pointer on the message to see the full description.
-
Click the Save Info button.
