Add/Edit Skills
In RosterApps, all shifts have at least one skill associated with them. An employee must have the skill associated with a shift in order to claim or be assigned that shift in RosterApps. This section describes how to add and edit skills for your entire company, after which the skills must be activated for locations as needed in order to be used by those locations in RosterApps. If you add a skill, it will not appear in RosterApps for other users until it has been activated for the appropriate location(s).
To add a skill:
- Click on the Skills tab. This page has a table that displays all skills at your company.
- Click the blue text link Create New Skill.
- RosterApps directs you to the Add a New Skill page. Enter information about your new skill in the fields on this page. Below is a list of these fields with descriptions:
- Code: This is the name RosterApps will use for this skill. This might be a short description or an abbreviation of the skill.
- Description: A description of the skill.
- 3rd Party Code: This field is for integration with other systems that your company may use and provides a way to make the translation between a skill in RosterApps and the corresponding skill in the other system. If you use another system (payroll or Time and Attendance systems, for example) that interacts with RosterApps and uses a different name for this skill, enter that name (or code) here.
- Active: Check this box to make the skill active in RosterApps.
- Click the blue Add button to create your new skill or click the blue Cancel button to cancel.
- The skill will now appear in the table on the main Skills page.
To edit a skill:
- Click on the Skills tab.
- The main Skills page displays the skills available at your company. Find the skill in the table that you would like to edit and click on the blue text link Edit in that skill’s row.
- RosterApps directs you to the Edit Skill page. Edit the fields on this page as needed. Below is a list of the fields on this page with descriptions:
- Code: This is the name RosterApps will use for this skill. This might be a short description or an abbreviation of the skill.
- Description: A brief description of the skill.
- 3rd Party Code: This field is for integration with other systems that your company may use and provides a way to make the translation between a skill in RosterApps and the corresponding skill in the other system. If you use another system (payroll or Time and Attendance systems, for example) that interacts with RosterApps and uses a different name for this skill, enter that name (or code) here.
- Active: Check this box to make the skill active in RosterApps or uncheck it to make the skill inactive in RosterApps.
- Click the blue Update button to save your changes.
