Roster List Ordering is a powerful feature used to create and maintain rosters .
Roster
A list of employees showing the order in which the employees will be called out for work. The roster list can be based on a primary job classification or a workgroup. Employees can have only one primary classification; however, they can be on multiple rosters for other classifications or workgroups. A roster is configured by Location, Classification, and List Status.
The Roster List Ordering screen provides configuration options in order for the roster to function according to specific business rules such as list sorting methods, rotation, chains, call methods, On/Off Call status, etc.
There are three types of roster lists: Primary Classification (Primary Class or Job Class) which automatically includes all employees with that Primary Class in the list, Workgroup which allows ARCOS users to manually choose the employees to be included on the list regardless of the Primary Class, and Storm Role which allows employees to be given a secondary skill that is used for storm mode.
Primary Class
A Primary Class is an employee's job title or skill associated with a roster. An employee can have only one primary job classification; however, he can be on rosters for other job classifications as well as other workgroups. ARCOS automatically configures rosters for each defined Job Classification.
Workgroup
A roster that is manually built by the ARCOS user by adding employees based on some criteria of the company, union agreement, or user. The user can add and remove employees from the roster whenever necessary. The callout order of the roster may be based on overtime, seniority, or a manual ordering by the user. The primary classification of the employee does not matter and the list is not auto-populated in a workgroup unless SuperClass Configuration is used.
Storm Roles
Storm Roles are a secondary job skill that can be assigned to employees and used for storm modes. On the List Maintenance page for a Storm Role list, employee's last trained dates can be tracked.
Below is an example of the Roster List Ordering screen. To navigate to this screen click Roster List Ordering on the List Mnt tab.

-

Note: Disabled rosters will be called for callouts if they are chained to a roster that is enabled.
-

-
Type: Type is the type of roster list. It can be one of three types: Primary Classification (Primary Class or Job Class) which automatically includes all employees with that Primary Class in the list, Workgroup which allows ARCOS users to manually choose the employees who will be included on the list regardless of the Primary Class, and Storm Role which allows employees to be given a secondary skill that is used for storm mode.
-

It also shows employees' Location, Primary Class, Availability Status, assigned Vehicle, Availability Comments, Seniority Date, and Configured Devices.
-

Note: Some companies allow the List Status and List Recording to be changed from this page. (The List Recording is the class name that will be spoken to employees when they are called for a callout on the list.)
-

-
Chain: Chaining allows Workgroups and Primary Class lists to be linked themselves or other Workgroups and Primary Classes together for callout purposes.

-
Notes about Deleting rosters
-
Deleting a roster does not remove any employees from the roster.
-
Deleted rosters continue to update hours if they are sorted by hours.
If the roster that has been deleted is sorted by hours, those hours will continue to update and the roster will be sorted. This activity will be reflected in an employee’s Log Trace Report.
-
Deleting a roster does not remove the roster from any chains in which it is included.
Deleting a roster does not remove it from any chains in which it might be included. For example, a Crew Leader list is included in a chain for a Lineman list, and the Crew Leader List is deleted, callouts can no longer be created specifically for Crew Leaders, but if a callout is initiated for the Lineman list and the end of the lineman list is reached, ARCOS would proceed to call the Crew Leaders even though that list has been deleted.
-
Deleted rosters continue to be available for selection in the Availability by Roster report as long as there are employees assigned to it.
-
Deleted rosters allow employees to still be added and removed.
While the act of simply deleting a roster does not delete employees from that roster, you can remove employees from a deleted roster using the Save Data and Edit Roster Assignments button at the bottom of the Employee Modify page. However, if a deleted list is chained to an active list employees can still be added to the list via Employee Modify page and List Maintenance page.
See Deleting Employees from a Roster in the Employee Module for more information.
