When you set up a new template or modify an existing one, certain information is required for the template. The following is a list of the fields used, their definitions, and whether or not they are required.
Field |
Description |
Template Name |
The short name for the template that will display in the table on the E-mail Template Admin page. (Required) |
Template Desc |
An optional field that holds the description of the template. |
HTML versus Plain Text |
A checkbox that allows you to send the e-mail in HTML format when checked. If you use HTML format, be sure to use <br> tags to separate lines of text in the Body. |
Return-Path: (e-mail address) |
This is a required address. It is not shown by most e-mail programs, such as Outlook, but some TXT MSG devices may show this address instead of the From: address. |
From : (e-mail address) |
This is a required address. It is shown as the From: field by most e-mail programs, but some TXT MSG devices may show the Return-Path: address instead. Also, while not likely, it is possible that some spam-blockers might reject the e-mail if this is not an @rostermonster.com e-mail address. |
Reply-To: (e-mail address) |
This is an optional address. It is the address that most -email programs use if the user clicks "Reply." Some TXT MSG devices may ignore this address and use the Return-Path: address. |
Additional Headers |
An optional field. Entries should be in the format: HeaderName: HeaderValue. For example, X-Mailer-Info: E-mail from ARCOS. This information is not visible to the recipient unless they examine the full headers of the e-mail. |
Subject |
This is a recommended field if the template is going to be used for FULL format e-mail. Most TXT MSG devices will include this, depending on the length. You can use substitution variables in this field if you wish. See the Substitutions Variable table for a list of accepted substitution variables. The variables are used with the dollar sign ($) in front and behind the variable name. |
Body |
This is a required field. It is where the main message content resides. You can use substitution variables in this field if you wish. See the Substitutions Variable table for a list of accepted substitution variables. The variables are used with the dollar sign ($) in front and behind the variable name. You can also use the question mark (?) in front of and behind the variable name in order to include the line only if the variable has a value. Otherwise, the line would be omitted. Any text that is not part of a variable will display the way it appears when you enter it in the Body field. In order to have text display on different lines in the Body, press the <Enter> key between entries. |
